Abstract:Since its initial discovery as a key regulator in bone metabolism, osteoprotegerin(OPG) has become the subject of intense interest for its role in vascular disease and calcification. In animal models and clinical studies it is revealed that,OPG can inhibit atherosclerosis(As),and its serum level increases in association with vascular calcification, coronary artery disease and future cardiovascular events. This feature of the exact mechanism and significance is not clear. To understand the complete role model,OPG gene polymorphism, calcification, inflammation, apoptosis and the relationship between the ligand should be included in the study, the paper in recent years on related aspects of the relationship between OPG and As reviewed the research progress.
