    Abstract:

Visfatin is a novel pro-inflammatory adipokine which was predominantly produced and secreted in visceral fat, involved in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, inflammation, and so on.In clinical study, serum visfatin was obviously elevated in patients with obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome, especially higher among patients with atherosclerosis. The results suggest that visfatin is closely correlated to macrovascular complications in diabetes mellitus. This paper will review the biological effects of visfatin and its influence on macrovascular complications in diabetes mellitus.
