    Abstract:

    Lipoprotein associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) is an enzyme produced by inflammatory cells and attached to low density lipoprotein (LDL). Lp-PLA2 hydrolyzes the oxidized LDL and releases inflammatory meditor to promote atherosclerosis. There is a significant association between the single nucleotide polymorphisms in the PLA2G7 gene and coronary heart disease. Lp-PLA2 is a novel inflammatory biomarker and has close relationship with the propensity of atherosclerosis. Lp-PLA2 has received attention gradually as an independent risk predictor and may be a new therapeutic target of coronary heart disease. This paper reviewed the recent research in the correlation between Lp-PLA2 and coronary heart disease.
