    Abstract:

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is the new gasotransmitter to regulate the function of cardiovascular system after nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO). H2S can hinder the development of atherosclerosis by protecting vascular endothelium and inhibiting vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and foam cell formation. This protective effect of H2S is achieved through the mechanisms such as anti-inflammation, against oxidative stress. Therefore, hydrogen sulfide is expected as a promising therapeutic target for atherosclerosis.
