    Abstract:

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1),which can stimulate insulin secretion and inhibit glucagon secretion and so on,is an incretin secreted by the intestinal endocrine L cells. Because GLP-1 has a short half-life,synthetic analogs with a longer half-life have been developed for clinical use as a new class of antidiabetic agents. Recently, studies show that GLP-1 can also protect myocardium by reducing reperfusion injury in ischemia-reperfusion. This paper makes a review on molecular mechanisms of myocardial protection against ischemia-reperfusion injury by GLP-1.
